We are obsessed with the new Beyonce record and not because it seems to be the one record in which she consistently bridged the experimental and indie with her larger than life pop, and not just because it helped us fall hard for James Blake and not just because the hard and retro black rock style psychadelia that sets off ‘Freedom’ and its epic feature by K-Dot, but also because of lyrics like these, “Wicked, my spirit inspired me / Like yeah, open correctional gates in higher desert / Yeah, open our mind as we cast away oppression / Yeah, open the streets and watch our beliefs / And when they carve my name inside the concrete, I pray it forever reads, ‘Freedom!'”
